Presidential candidates are on a path to get more ridiculous. It was shocking enough when Donald Trump announced he was running for president as he is more of a celebrity figure than a leader. But on August 30th, 2015 as Kanye West was accepting the Video Vanguard Award, and giving a lengthy speech, he announced he was running for president in 2020. This could very well be a publicity stunt, as he is married to the queen of publicity stunts. But as we all know about Kanye, when he is determined to do something, he becomes hyper-focused on accomplishing it until he has done it. Potentially, if the internet blows up like it already has and many are antagonizing Kanye like the adults are, (that he can't be president) it could push Kanye to set his sights on becoming the leader of the free world. And put him in the mindset of not stopping until he is.
So what would life be like? With Kanye West as president? The opinions are very obviously split with teenagers and young adults already getting #KanyeForPresident trending. And adults to seniors thinking it is a horrible idea. Is it a horrible idea? Is it a worse idea than Trump as president? To some this could be an extremely easy question. But if you truly examine both sides unbiased, it takes some thought.
Trump is a businessman. He is a successful businessman. Would America be better off being run by a businessman like a business? Kanye is a successful rapper, fashion designer, and entrepreneur. In the past 10 years, Kanye West entered the world of pop culture and changed it drastically with back to back critically acclaimed and very successful rap albums. It is safe to say Kanye has changed the world of pop culture since his first album. Pop culture on the other hand, is the first layer of many that make up America. Pop culture is exactly like when you walk into the grocery store and see all the items at eye level. That is the first things you see and there are put there for that exact reason. Maybe they are more expensive, or not selling as much. I'm not saying pop culture is expensive or not selling. I'm saying that pop culture is thrown right in front of your face and is the first thing people think of when they think of America.
We live in a world where most of the population tuned in to the VMA's than they did a political debate. So in many people's eyes, more young than old, Kanye West is a pretty big deal. So why shouldn't he be president? Because as of right now, Kanye has only mastered that first layer that is America. He has mastered the pop culture of America. But if he wants to lead America. He has to master every layer. And fully understand every layer. But who knows, 4 years is a ways away. And, depending on how determined Kanye is to keep his word to all those people he told he was running for president in 2020 - He could potentially master those layers.
