I had my first experience with Michael Christmas back in March of 2015. He was the opener for a Logic concert that I was going to with a bunch of my buddies. While waiting in line for a little over three hours, we saw him stroll by the line interacting with the fans and such. Now, I wasn't aware of who he was until someone told me and it was also when I first found out he was the opener. I had never heard his music before and I was anxious to see what he was going to bring to the show. I was not let down as he is still one of the best openers to a concert I have seen so far. He engaged the crowd, made jokes, and got us all turnt in the small space of The Asylum in Portland, Maine. I remember him taking my phone and taking a Snapchat of the crowd which I thought was the coolest thing and while leaving the concert that night we were still talking about his performance. I downloaded his first mixtape, Is This Art? When I got home and honestly only really listened to the songs I remembered from the concert. It wasn't until later that year that I found him to truly succeed not just as a performer but as a recording artist as well.
What A Weird Day hits home in many different aspects. His lyrics are funny in some areas with lines like "When I die fuck the wake I want a party bring the fakes/And bring my fans, and bring Lil B and tell him to bring his vans/
I want them in my casket, and bring a chicken basket". But it doesn't stray away from taking him seriously as an artist. The production is awesome with songs like 'Hate' that fits the vibe of turning up in the car with your friends as equally as it does a mosh-pit at a concert. Which you might have been able to witness first hand as he just got off opening for Mac Miller on his GO:OD AM tour. I tried to see the Boston show but halfway there from Maine, me and my best friend realized that we were sold the 18+ tickets unknowingly and basically just lost $120. Luckily, we bought some (overpriced) tickets from a scalper for the earlier all ages show and got in to see the end of Mac's set. While in there and trying to find a good view in the already packed House Of Blues, I saw who else but Michael Christmas grabbing a drink at the bar. I asked him how his set went and joked around about a Snapchat I sent him earlier that week of me in class bumping his music before my teacher yelled at me to turn it down. When I asked if I could grab a picture before I left, Mike replied "Yeah but you better show it to your teacher!"

Getting back to the music, besides this guy's likable, down-to-earth personality that is reflected perfectly into his music. He makes music that just makes you feel good. What A Weird Day is a 18-track long album that is full of features that adds to the album's vibe as almost every feature kills it with guests like, Logic, Mac Miller & D.R.A.M. Michael's fanbase has been growing rapidly via word-of-mouth as he builds relationships with his fans and really takes the time to shake their hand and let them know he appreciates them coming to see the show. That kind of interaction goes a long way as music is much more enjoyable to listen and to share when you know it's coming from someone as laid back and genuine as Mike. The best part about What A Weird Day is it leaves you satisfied with the idea of who Mike is but also leaves you excited for what he is going to produce next as an artist.
