A new Hip-Hop act crash landed on earth in 2013 and their name is Run The Jewels. RTJ exploded out of the gates with their self-titled debut which was released as a free download in 2013. The duo consists of Killer Mike, who has been a big voice in the Atlanta rap scene and got his start with a verse off of OutKast's critically acclaimed Stankonia. And producer/rapper El-P who handles all the production for RTJ. The duo's music consists of heavy hitting abrasive beats courtesy of El-P that makes you want to get the hell up and break some shit. Their self-titled made waves throughout the rap industry but it wasn't until Run The Jewels 2, which was voted the best rap album of 2014 by Rolling Stone that they were regarded as one of the greats of today. Killer Mike already has quite a following with big names like Kendrick Lamar shouting him out on 'Hood Politics' off of To Pimp A Butterfly. Some of the reason being is not only Killer Mike's determination to be one of the greats in rap music by the time he dies but because of his storytelling and brutally honest attacks on social and political issues. Killer Mike's verse on 'Early' off Run The Jewels 2 references the kind of police brutality we face today with losses like Travyon Martin and Michael Brown. But their music isn't just depressing issues such as that. The duo is widely known for their sense of humor as they just recently released a remix album of RTJ 2 called Meow The Jewels which can be downloaded for free here:

Meow The Jewels is basically RTJ 2 but remixed with nothing but cat noises. It's as awesome as it sounds.
Run The Jewels has been turning heads left and right since they formed due to Killer Mike and El-P releasing albums around the same time and going on tour together; forming not only a powerful friendship, but an even more powerful musical force that should be reckoned with. Although they haven't become a household name yet, RTJ is on a damn near perfect streak. It's just a matter of time to see if that streak will come to an end or continue putting out not just acceptable music, but music that aims to steal the hip-hop crown of today.
