Logic creates his music in a way that transports you to whatever scene he has in mind. On his debut Under Pressure, Logic takes you back to his childhood home and shows you his struggles growing up as a kid with lines like "Food stamps, social services try to take me away / My mama locked up, I pray to god that I see her today". But with his follow up, The Incredible True Story Logic takes you on a journey to a foreign planet called Paradise with a captain named Quentin Thomas and his first man of infantry, William Kai. Logic has created an amazing backstory for this album which he goes into full detail here:

But with his follow up, The Incredible True Story Logic takes you on a journey to a foreign planet called Paradise with a captain named Quentin Thomas and his first man of infantry, William Kai. Logic has created an amazing backstory for this album which he goes into full detail here:
To sum it up for you, the earth has been plagued. We need to get off the planet so we create a giant space station called Babel, named after the super city that all of our continents came together to create before the plague started to spread. Babel can hold 5 million people in space so as people started dying off because of the plague, we fly the remainder of the population up to Babel and leave Earth in 2065. Now, obviously we can't live on a space station forever. Luckily, we learn about a planet known as Paradise. Many people have tried to reach Paradise to find out if it is habitable but some came back empty handed, but some didn't come back at all. That's where Thomas and Kai come in. They are flying the Aquarius III in attempt to find Paradise. Thomas listened to Under Pressure before the ship takes off and as soon as the ship actually does take off, The Incredible True Story starts.
Obviously, Logic has won the creativity aspect of the album, as he put an entire script behind this album and really has created something different. Musically, he jumps from different sounds throughout the album, you can hear Drake, J. Cole, Kendrick and OutKast influences throughout the entire album. That being said, Logic has been criticized for sounding too much like these influences or "biting their style". It's been a battle he has been fighting with his criticizers since Under Pressure. Some say Logic still needs to find his own sound. How do I feel about it? Bittersweet. Before I go any further I want to say I am a HUGE Logic fan but I will try to see both sides of the aspects on this. Yes, Logic has songs where he sounds like other artists, you have a Drake flow/beat on 'I Am The Greatest' and a sort of Kendrick flow on 'Like Woah'. But Hip-Hop as it is, is already such a copy-cat genre. You can almost never find a hip-hop album that doesn't already "sample" or basically take from another artist's sound. We also have to see Logic as a human being rather than an artist at times. Logic enjoys tons of different music and like other rappers, when he hears something he likes, he usually will put it in his song and rap over it. Or when he hears a certain flow, it kind of sticks with him. That's just how the human brain works, when you have a dream, and there is a person you've never recognized in your life in that dream, that person is someone or some kind of memories merged into one. His facial features or body structures have something to do with a memory you've actually lived for. Logic could not EVER have made hip-hop if he didn't hear the genre or an artist and say "that's what I want to do with my life". We all take inspirations, some show more clearly than others but ALL hip-hop artists do it.
Logic created a very enjoyable album in my opinion. It's one of personal contenders for album of the year. You have skits that at sometimes can seem like the dialogue is a little on the weak side but for the most part is entertaining and also at times comical. The whole album flows perfectly together and is an insane ride from start to finish. We also get a taste of Logic's singing abilities which is surprisingly very very good. You can hear it best on 'City Of Stars', 'Never Been', and on 'The Incredible True Story'/Outro. There is a little bit of everything, from slower jams like 'Paradise' to the hard hitting 'Stainless'. But, this album is not for everyone. But it is so well put together that it 100% deserves a listen. Logic has created such a unique piece of art that combines three of his favorite things: Sci-Fi, Anime, and Quentin Tarantino. I would absolutely recommend this album and have already bought tickets/VIP to his closest show.
