On January 30th, 2016 Drake dropped the first single off his highly anticipated fourth studio album Views From The 6. It was a song by the name of ‘Summer Sixteen’. In the song he talks brags about how on top of the rap game he is and basically how indestructible he is as an artist. Which is true at the time that this article was written. He also addressed his beef with Philadelphia based rapper Meek Mill. He talks about the rumors that have arisen that when Drake’s diss record ‘Back To Back’ dropped (which is now nominated for a Grammy this year) he was staying at a four seasons hotel in the room right above Meek and played the diss track over and over while Meek tried to sleep. Now, if this was true, which from both parties it does seem so, this would be the most savage shit I’ve ever heard. But in Drake’s song that's really all his addresses about his beef with Meek. Now, a couple hours after Drake premiered his song on OVO Sound Radio, his show on Beats 1 radio. Meek released a 4-track EP. One of those songs being ‘War Pain’. I’m personally more in favor of Drake in the beef but there is no denying that Meek went Hard. In terms of who took the most shots, Meek won for sure. I'm still confused why he didn’t go this hard to begin because his first couple diss tracks were trash. But ‘War Pain’ brings up the argument, is the beef staged?
There is no denying that their beef is as big of a cash cow as DJ Khaled’s Snapchat stories. But in Meek’s verse in ‘War Pain’ he states “And you claimin' you HOV now? Why you state that shit?” In a direct response to Drake’s line “I used to wanna be on Roc-A-Fella then I turned into Jay”. Which raises the question: how the fuck could Meek record that verse and that line right after Drake’s Summer Sixteen dropped? Assuming that would have been the first time he heard it. That is, if they were on opposite courts. Meek released his diss with almost impeccable timing to ‘Summer Sixteen’. But it proves that Meek either has someone in the inside to hear the finished product and get a 100% guarantee that ‘Summer Sixteen’ would be the single premiered on January 30th. It’s a debatable argument. But I really believe that the beef is staged. Look how fast Kanye and Wiz made up. Ye just tweeted today, February 2nd, 2016 that “Me and Wiz spoke yesterday. Great convo. All positive”.

When you're in the music industry, shit like the beef Biggie and Tupac had just doesn't really happen anymore. Especially with Drake & Meek who have worked together before. And toured together before. Plus Drake is insanely close to Meek’s girlfriend, Nicki Minaj. Do you think she would let this continue on for as long as it has? No. My prediction is that Meek let Drake have his fantastic 2015. With the number of diss tracks that went on to have commercial success to the ‘Hotline Bling’ music video that was everywhere. Meek and Drake could have just easily planned this whole thing because if Meek comes out swinging in his upcoming mixtape Dreamchasers 4 and destroys Drake, or if Views From The 6 flops. Meek could be on top. And this “beef” could have made him bigger than he every could have been before. Or maybe I’m just reading in to it too much?
